DNCFor event planners going virtual, there are production lessons to be learned from this week’s virtual DNC, four days of political and inspirational speakers, entertainers and nationwide events including a 57-person choir performance.

The DNC kicked off Monday night, August 17, with a robust schedule of activities held at remote sites across America.

2020 Democratic National Convention opening night festivities included speeches by Senator Bernie Sanders and former First Lady Michelle Obama. Featured artists will perform each of the four nights, including Leon Bridges, The Chicks, Common, Billie Eilish, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Billy Porter, Maggie Rogers, Prince Royce and Stephen Stills. Organizers hope the performances will attract new viewers who might not have tuned in otherwise.

Monday night’s other highlight was a performance of the National Anthem from youth choir members across America. DNCC partner Commonwealth Youthchoirs has assembled a 57-member choir of young people from all walks of life, and each member will perform from one of 57 states and territories.

The official live stream  is hosted on DemConvention.com, where viewers can also find the full convention schedule.

There’s also a roster of social media events, with speakers ranging from Elizabeth Warren to Chasten Buttigieg. Follow @DemConvention on all the major social media channels, including Snapchat.

Biden Will Accept Nomination from Delaware

The official business of the convention is taking place on a delegate portal where they can cast their votes, and remote meetings were held before the convention. Joe Biden will accept the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination Thursday in Wilmington, Del., and his running mate, Senator Kamala Harris, will speak on Wednesday night.

The final plug was pulled on the Democratic National Convention, which was set to take place in Milwaukee, Wisc., in early August, when the live speaker appearances were cancelled from the already pared-down program.
