We spoke with Patrick Mitchell, vice president of USA sales for Club Med International, about inspiration and creative thinking for groups meeting at Club Med.
Prevue: Are there any innovations at your resorts that enhance the guest/attendee experience?
Mitchell: Club Med’s new ski resort in Val Thorens will offer an excellent customer experience through its easy check-in offer and 360 degree digital ecosystem. The easy check-in will include having all ski and snowboard equipment prepared and placed in the guest’s personal locker in advance prior to arrival, as well as online subscription to childcare and ski and snowboard classes.
The digital initiatives will include a specialized resort app, which will provide a seamless mobile check-in, interactive screens in-room and informative screens throughout the resort. The resort app will offer a social jukebox where guests can contribute to a resort playlist. Other fun digital experiences will include an innovative photo booth and kinetic dancing.
Are there any local venues whose design and ambiance seem made for inspiring new ideas?
Club Med’s resorts have often been the first properties developed in the destinations. As a result, Club Med resorts sit in awe-inspiring locations in iconic destinations around the world—from Nusa Dua in Bali to Punta Nizuc in Mexico.
For inspiration and creative thinking, nothing can beat the vistas and crisp clean air at one of our Alpine mountain resorts, such as Val Thorens in France or Pragelato in Italy. And regardless of destination, you can be sure that Club Med resorts reflect the architecture, art, cuisine, entertainment and activities of the destination. There are no cookie-cutter resorts at Club Med. From Marrakech, Morocco and Phuket, Thailand to Ixtapa Pacific, Mexico, our resorts reflect the local culture that is sure to inspire new ideas on-site and for years to come.
How can the experiential ‘hands-on’ trend be achieved at your resorts?
Club Med is a pioneer in finding top travel destinations and embraces taking advantage of all that these destinations have to offer. Learning activities ranging from ski, golf, volleyball and tennis to triathlon training and kitesurfing are taught on-site at various Club Med resorts.
Additionally, a vast array of engaging excursions may be arranged from elephant rides in Bali, dog sledding at select resorts in the Alps and whale watching in the Dominican Republic to visiting historical sites such as the ruins in Tulum, Mexico.
