Located next to the Amsterdam RAI Convention Centre, the new RAI Amtrium opens May 2015 as an ultra-green, next generation conference center and office complex.

On ground level, the modernist all-glass building houses a 6,000-sf ballrom and a 7,200-sf lounge, with a removable wall separating the two. There’s also an 1,100-sf meeting room on the first floor, divisible by half.

As is the norm these days, the new facility is state-of-the-art in terms of its sustainability mission, winning four stars by BREEAM-NL for new construction. This is the first conference center in the Netherlands to achieve that certification.

“This means we have a pioneering role and a unique opportunity to position the certificate on the market together with the Dutch Green Building Council,” says Hans Bakker, CEO of Amsterdam RAI. “We started this process in order to define the framework for this type of building.”

The most interesting sustainable component of the Amtrium is the vertical greenhouse for urban farming. Crops grown at the conference center will be used in the onsite kitchen for banquets and events in both the function space and ROAST restaurant.
