W Hotels Worldwide recently made its debut in Colombia with the opening of W Bogota. The third W Hotel in Latin America, meeting planners can expect W’s contemporary vibe throughout its 168 guest rooms and 7,900 sf of flexible meeting space. The hotel’s W Lounge, a take on the traditional lobby, features bold furniture and a local interpretation of Bogota’s urban art. Attendees will also appreciate the ongoing calendar of W Happenings, programs that feature the latest in design, fashion and music. Prevue spoke with Ian Ciappara, general manager of W Bogota, to discuss the local destination and what it has to offer meetings.

Prevue: How does the property represent the local destination of Bogota?

Ian Ciappara: W Bogota draws inspiration from the Legend of the Golden King, which is representative of Bogota’s great history. It also incorporates natural elements found in the city, such as gold and emeralds, and the indoor pool resembles Lake Guatavita. In addition, the textiles and materials used are locally sourced, reflecting the craftsmanship of locals and the graffiti mural by Vertigo represents the new and more urban side of Bogota.

How does the property standout for groups compared to others in the area? 

Ciappara: W Bogota has spaces that are both intimate and high-tech. We are able to separate the conference facilities from the hotel, providing clients a dedicated space for their meetings. Our Great Room doesn’t share the prefunction space with any other rooms, which means clients have exclusive access to the space for branding, networking and socializing.  It also has a dedicated sound booth, to facilitate speeches and multi-language presentations, as well as 16-foot-tall ceilings, for extensive setup. Our Studios range 290 to 674 sf and feature natural lighting and are clever and techy, ideal for small brainstorming sessions or mid-size presentations.

What teambuilding offerings does the property offer for groups?

Ciappara: We are still developing offerings specifically for teambuilding activities. What I can say, is that at W everything is driven by the brand’s passion points: music, fashion and design. And, in Bogota, this will come to life through local interpretations of these passion points. In addition, local beverage and food will be front and center.

What does the hotel staff recommend meeting attendees do during their free time?

Ciappara: Bogota is a fast-paced metropolitan city. In just a couple hours, you can get lost in the city’s rich architecture, museums and parks spanning from the city center to the north where W Bogota is located.Guests at W Bogota with a couple hours to spare should visit Usaquen, which offers a wide variety of local restaurants, bars and old-fashioned one-of-a-kind pastry shops. Or you can shop, picking from designer apparel to some of the city’s best antiques and traditional crafts.
