Moon Palace

The 2,446-room Moon Palace Golf Resort & Spa is the largest luxury all-inclusive on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. The resort includes three glamorous lobbies, 15 restaurants, three 9-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature courses, a high-end spa and a state of the art conference center. The largest events take place in the 55,850-sf Universal Ballroom, seating up to 5,000 pax. The resort has over 140,000 sf of meeting space.

During a recent weekend trip, I completed a 2-day scavenger hunt to learn about the four different sections on property. The newly upgraded Sunrise section is the largest, while the new Moon Grand wing mirrors an exclusive boutique style hotel. The Nizuc section offers a concierge level, and it will unveil its new facelift later this year. The Golf Villas are ideal for a small golf incentive.

“The golf villas offer luxurious and private accommodations, upgraded amenities and wonderful views of the golf course,” says Susan Hanlon, VP meeting/incentive sales for Palace Resorts. “Groups staying at the golf villas enjoy use of their own personal golf cart for the duration of their stay, which they can use not only to get around the links, but throughout the property. This is a great added value!”

The pulsating music events at the Sunrise pool captivated my younger counterparts, while others stretched out on a hammock on the hotel balconies. I enjoyed the peace and quiet lounging on the comfy balcony couches at Moon Grand. That is one of the coolest things about Moon Palace. I can bring an incentive group with varying preferences for diverse accommodations, and everyone can still have ocean views and quick access to the all-inclusive perks.

Swimming with the dolphins in their own environment is always an unforgettable experience. For an hour we enjoyed the gentle rolling waves and the sparkling Caribbean Sea as these very social marine mammals jumped, clapped, sang and entertained us. I’m exhilarated every time the powerful push of their noses on the soles of my feet sends me soring through the sea. Book four groups of up to 18 at a time.

It was now time to relax and rejuvenate. Hopping on one of the dozens of golf carts, the main means of transportation at Moon Palace, we bounced and laughed while passing through the mangroves and golf courses to reach the spacious, deluxe spa. It features 39 treatment rooms, men’s and women’s private sections, and a myriad of services to choose from inside a giant, 2-story Mayan-style palapa.

While lounging on one of the many chaises or soaking in a hydrotherapy pool, quench your thirst with a hibiscus flower ice tea or chlorophyll, which helps rebuild and replenish our red blood cells, before your private masseuse or masseur comes to collect you.

One of my favorite restaurants, the fine dining La Trattoria has a comfortable Italian trattoria elegance and a wealth of pasta types and well prepared side dishes. Executive Chef Arturo Monforte prepared a wonderful ministre di formaggio as one of our four pre fixe menu courses, which was a big success for the entire group.

Both the dolphin experience and spa are additional charges. Hanlon suggests working with your group event specialist to arrange for advance booking and charges to the master.
