Minnesota was the inspiration for the new multimillion-dollar renovation of the Radisson Blu Minneapolis, located in downtown. The state’s Scandinavian heritage inspired the Scandinavian-style furniture throughout the hotel, while the natural wood finishes, steel and copper in the furniture were a nod to the industries and mines that helped build Minnesota.

“The design of Radisson Blu Minneapolis blends modern with reclaimed elements that pay homage to Minnesota, allowing our guests to truly experience a sense of place when they visit,” says Steven Lindburg, general manager of the hotel.

The 360-room hotel’s focus on artwork continues that Minnesota experience. For instance, an LED video installation in the lobby welcomes attendees, spanning an entire wall as the focal point of the arrival experience. Two works of digital art were commissioned for the screens: Minneapolis in Motion, a video that highlights footage taken in Minneapolis, and Cants and Flitches, a video that celebrates the state’s lumber industry. The second and third floors were also renovated to feel like an art gallery, featuring work created by artists in or near Minneapolis. Even the guest rooms, which are decorated with a subdued color scheme and natural colors are highlighted by colorful artwork that hangs on the walls.

Another focal point in the lobby includes the white Krion table positioned below the 16-story atrium box. The dome-shaped light fixture hangs above the communal lobby tables, making it a vibrant space for attendees to network or simply catch up on some email in between meetings.

The property’s more than 29,000 sf of meeting space now has windows, which incorporates natural lighting into the space, says Cheryl Johnson, director of sales and marketing for the property. “The décor is neutral allowing meeting planners the ability to create customized events,” she adds.

The meeting space also offers access to the skyway system of Minneapolis, which gives attendees easy access to shops and businesses in the city without having to go outside. This also helps when meeting planners want to customize a teambuilding activity. “A few favorites we have done previously include planning scavenger hunts throughout the Minneapolis Skyway System and organizing dine-arounds for attendees to explore the thriving culinary scene within the city,” says Johnson.

For attendees looking to check out Minneapolis on their own, Johnson recommends going to the theater, as Minneapolis is only second to New York City in terms of theater seats per capita. The Guthrie Theater and the Hennepin Theater Trust both offer Broadway, Off Broadway and comedy shows most nights of the week.
