guidelines for reopening

Meetings Mean Business—a leading voice in the industry—has announced 6 guidelines for reopening.

The broad Meetings Mean Business guidelines for reopening are based on the U.S. Travel Association guidance for the many sectors of the greater travel industry:

1. Adjust operations, employee practices and public spaces to help protect employees and customers.

2. Consider implementing touchless solutions, where practical, to limit the opportunity for virus transmission while also enabling a positive travel experience.

3. Implement enhanced sanitation procedures specifically designed to combat the transmission of COVID-19.

4. Promote health screenings for employees and isolate workers with possible COVID-19 symptoms and provide health resources to customers.

5. Establish new procedures, aligned with CDC guidance, to use if one of your employees tests positive for COVID-19.

6. Follow best practices in food and beverage service to promote health of employees and customers.

The U.S. Travel Association has worked with health and medical experts on a core set of health and safety guidelines for the travel industry to adapt to their businesses. Just released is new guidance for destinations, which can be found in the recording or slides of the recent webinar: A Phased Reopening: Operating and Communicating New Safety Guidance.

Another set of guidelines comes from the World Health Organization (WHO). Key measures for hotels and meeting spaces include a focus on high-frequency touch points such as guest room key cards; ensuring social distancing for guests and attendees through guidelines and signage in public spaces; retraining staff in infection control, social distancing and enhanced hygiene measures, including hand washing and the use of masks and gloves; removing extraneous items throughout the property; contactless payment wherever possible; and offering room service with no-contact delivery methods.
