On May 22, the New-York Historical Society Museum & Library will celebrate its new Henry Luce III Center, which offers new ways for groups to meet amid history.
Predominantly making up the Henry Luce III Center on the museum’s renovated fourth floor is the Joyce B. Cowin Women’s History Gallery. The first-of-its-kind gallery will house rotating exhibits that focus on women’s history in the U.S. While the space is not available for private events, groups can take tours while attending events in one of the other new fourth-floor event spaces.
One such space is the Gallery of Tiffany Lamps that features 100 custom-designed glass lamps—many of which were designed by Clara Driscoll and the “Tiffany Girls” from her women’s Glasscutting Department—in a space that can accommodate up to 300 attendees. The center’s North Gallery is also available for up to 185 attendees to meet amid historic treasures from the Society’s permanent collection, which is enhanced by interactive media.
In addition to these new spaces, the New-York Historical Society Museum & Library features other private event spaces, including The Robert H. and Clarice Smith New York Gallery of American History for up to 450 attendees. The gallery space features six original columns (built in 1904) that have digital monitors so planners can customize the space. Interactive touch screens and highlights from the permanent collection also provide a decadent backdrop.
Meeting planners can also rent the Patricia D. Klingenstein Library and Dexter Hall separately or together for up to 600 guests. Lastly, the museum’s 420-seat Robert H. Smith Auditorium is also available for screenings, lectures and commencement ceremonies.
