meetL.A. Launches Virtual Travel Experience for Meeting Planners

Planners considering Los Angeles can now experience 360-degree views of the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles Convention Center and other popular entertainment, dining and cultural venues and locations (more than 50 in total) from the comfort of their own homes or offices. Dubbed Virtual Discovery L.A., the virtual reality (VR) platform can be viewed on mobile or desktop (with or without virtual reality glasses) and will be added to the forthcoming meetL.A. app, which is set to debut this November. The tool was designed by meetL.A. (as part of the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board) in partnership with VR guru Xplorit.

We donned VR glasses and experienced Virtual Discovery firsthand during IMEX 2016, and inadvertently discovered that Darren Green’s assessment that “L.A. has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to venues” to be true. L.A. Tourism’s VP of sales guided us through part of the way in VR—from perusing the platform’s Sky Hubs to essentially hopping on the L.A. Metro for a ride around town. Planners can use the tool to take a look at the city’s accessibility through virtual routes or click on information icons to get a deeper feel for venues and locations. The virtual experience can be accessed at DiscoverLosAngeles.com/meetLA or beginning mid-November, through the new meetL.A. app (via desktop, tablet and smartphone), which is the mobile version of meetLA.com.
