The Cancun CVB debuted the new 242,000-sf Lakam Center exhibition space this month following part of a $25 million development that wrapped last December. The Lakam Center consists of four distinct buildings, sitting on 45 acres, making it one of the largest conference spaces in Latin America. The facility features wide-column spacing throughout the buildings and extensive amount of space for up to 50 trucks and 500 automobiles. Total attendee capacity is 15,000 pax.
Sample groups booking Lakam Center include the Flight Center Global Gathering Conference in July, expecting over 3,000 delegates.
“We strongly believe that the development, coupled with 5-star management and customer service, will facilitate an even greater influx of visitors to the region,” says Horacio Estrada, principal of BP-RIO Development.
The location is only six miles from the Cancun International Airport and 11 miles from the area’s popular resorts, sparkling beaches and buzzing nightlife. There are over 34,000 hotels rooms in the area, multiple commercial shopping centers and hundreds of dining options within a short radius of the building. The exhibition center adds to Cancun’s already unique and extensive meeting/convention spaces, ranging from the Cancun Center to various spaces at some of the destination’s top resorts.
The term “Lakam” translates to “a place where people meet and find success.” The local business community in Cancun chose the name based on the scope of the building’s capabilities and how it will benefit the entire Yucatan peninsula.
