One of the biggest challenges planners face is designing fun activities that appeal to all generations.

Millennials might snub their noses at golf, while many aging Boomers prefer to skip the adrenaline-pumping activities on the agenda. We turned to experts in three cities—Atlanta, Greenville and Naples—to see how they do that

Stone Mountain concert

Known for its natural beauty (built around the world’s largest piece of exposed granite) and scenic views of Atlanta in the distance, Stone Mountain takes on an entirely different feeling in the dark. Groups of 50 to 100 attendees can enjoy The Lasershow Spectacular in Mountainvision on their own private terrace, complete with a catered dinner before the show. A combination of laser lights and pyrotechnics choreographed to music, the 2017 version, Drone Wars: The Mountain Awakens, adds three flame cannons that send a trio of flames nearly 100 ft into the air. As a special touch, companies can arrange to show their corporate logo on the side of the mountain before the show begins.

Commercial fishing tour

Those who feel like kicking back will enjoy a waterfront shrimp tour of the largest commercial shrimp fleet in the Gulf of Mexico. Guided tours start at the Science Center, where they learn the history of the industry and area ecosystem. The group then continues to the commercial fishing docks to see the boats unloaded, how trawl doors are built and shrimp nets are sewn, and how the seafood is processed.

BMW driving experience

For an entirely different vibe, there’s the BMW Spartanburg’s Ultimate Driving Experience. A one-hour option lets attendees sample many of the vehicles on the off-road course, then get into the passenger seat for an unforgettable high-speed lap with a professional driver. Full-day experiences include classroom instruction as well as track time. There’s also the chance to go inside Plant Spartanburg, considered to be a world-class manufacturing facility, to observe how the cars are built.
