Kudos to hotelier Carlos Couturier and partners Grupo Habita on Hotel Americano, their first hotel in the United States. The innovative property recently opened in the fall of 2011 in the heart of Manhattan’s West Chelsea, and it makes a great escape for small corporate group events.

The 10-story, 56-room hotel is nearby some of the world’s greatest art galleries and New York’s famed High Line Park. The clientele is international and the Euro Chic music pumps through the public spaces, including the fabulous Americano restaurant where the food is not to be missed.

The restaurant space morphs from coffee bar to lunchroom to casually elegant dining for 60. This area is available for a buyout, and there are two private rooms for a cocktail event, or weather permitting, an outdoor patio area.

The menu by Chef Joseph Buenconsejo (an alumni of Jean-Georges Vongerichten) mixes American themes with Mexican/Latin influences and a touch of French flair. A friendly staff serves up beautiful dishes like Salad De Homard, including Maine lobster, quinoa, avocado, cilantro, salsa verde, crème fraiche. The Salmon a La Plancha  features seared salmon, grilled vegetables and a delicate sauce vierge. all simply perfect. And, if a burger is what your group craves, try the Burger MX with avocado, poblano, tomato, lettuce, chipotle mayo and jalapeno pickle served with pommes frites. It’s packed with amazing flavors that explode and melt in your mouth.

The wine list includes solid selections both by bottle and glass like Chenin Blanc, Savennieres Domaine de Deux Vallees 2009, which pairs nicely with the cheese sampling appetizer combining Pleasant Ridge Reserve Extra Aged, Roquefort and Double Cream Crement.

When booking rooms, planners should note the minimalistic style with wooden platform beds, (low to the floor) warm lighting and natural materials. Rooms are small but custom amenities and advanced technology provide a serene space to retreat from the city’s bustle. Free high-speed WiFi service in all rooms and public spaces makes Hotel Americano a perfect spot for corporate events.
