Now that the highway between Todos Santos and Cabo San Lucas in Mexico is complete, groups have more of an incentive to make the 30-minute trek to Rancho Pescadero. The eco-boutique reflects the history of Todos Santos, a tiny village that artists and surfers flocked to about 20 years ago. Mexico’s Secretariat of Tourism named it one of the country’s “pueblos mágicos,” which means it gives visitors a “magical” experience. The bohemian culture that thrives in the area certainly reflects that and inspires the attitude at the 27-suite property—ideal for intimate incentive trips or sales meetings of up to 50 people.
The complimentary daily yoga, bicycles and surfboards are just the beginning of the ways in which guests can immerse themselves in the boho-chic vibe. New to the meetings scene, the property is flexible in terms of helping meeting planners coordinate activities onsite. Don Morris, the property’s general manager, suggests team bicycling activities, culinary competitions, adventure walking and volunteer opportunities in which attendees help with sea turtle release efforts, to name a few.
The property’s close access to Cabo means that they have a lot of connections with DMI companies that have been planning meetings in Cabo on a big scale for decades. “We can take advantage of those things that have been existing in Cabo for a long time and apply it to this intimate resort to make a very private exclusive program,” says Morris.
One of the things the property prides itself in is its food. About 15 years ago, the organic farming movement started moving in heavily to the Todos Santos area, and the hotel has really taken off with that culinary influence, says Morris. The property’s restaurant features dishes made from seasonal ingredients, with most of them being grown in the onsite garden.
The restaurant’s executive chef was recruited from the high-end One&Only Palmilla in Cabo San Lucas. He turned the food program around so much so the property now hosts annual culinary events with some of the best chefs in Latin America. In mid-November, the property hosted a Best of Baja culinary weekend in which hot-right-now Chef Javier Plascencia (of Tiajuana’s Misión 19 restaurant) was one of several chefs to prepare a meal. His consisted of four courses with wine pairings, which preceded a tequila tasting earlier in the evening.
“We have a smaller intimate feeling, so you truly get a sense that you’re still in Mexico in a comfortable, safe environment,” says Morris. “The hotel’s size also means that groups completely takeover the property. I could rename the ranch [for them]. I could literally do anything here because we’re much more personable and flexible.”
In terms of meeting space, the property has a 2,000-sf yoga studio with a wood floor that overlooks the ocean and can fit up to 100 people. Plus, the property also has small breakout spaces, as well as an ideal beach set-up for evening receptions and dinners.
