Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck opened Wolfgang Puck Pizzeria & Cucina and Wolfgang Puck Steak this winter inside the 400-room MGM Grand Detroit. The pizzeria serves classic Italian dishes and specialty Italian-style cocktails. In-house pastas include homemade fettuccine with wild mushrooms, veal and mushroom ravioli, pork chop Milanese and puffy-edged pizzas from a wood-fired oven.
Other menu highlights include chicken piccata with lemon-caper butter sauce, grilled salmon with white beans, artichokes with rosemary butter and the oh-so decadent Marscarpone cheesecake with fresh berries and an Affogato coffee drink with hazelnut ice cream and espresso.
“Great Italian food is all about great ingredients,” says Puck. “It doesn’t have to be complicated, just delicious.”
The pizzeria has two bars that serve a comprehensive selection of Italian wines. There are two private dining rooms, seating 10/20 pax.
Executive chef Marc Djozlija is a 16-year veteran of the Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group and plans to bring the famed restaurateur’s warm and inviting presence to Wolfgang Puck Steak.
The steakhouse will serve prime-cut meats and an assortment of shellfish, fresh fish and what Djozlija says is one of the best burger and steak menus in Detroit. The Puck Burger has white cheddar and a caramelized onion “jam” on a brioche bun. The meat selection includes the Kansas City strip steak and a 43 oz. bone-in rib chop for two.
Groups can order a variety of sauces to mix with their meats, including a mustard-cognac sauce, a housemade steak sauce, bearnaise, peppercorn and creamy horseradish sauce. Other menu favorites include the 3-cheese mac ‘n cheese and warm chocolate souffle with whipped cream and chocolate sauce.
The bar serves an international wine list and specialty libations including the Adios Nonino, a cocktail combined with Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Luxardo Amaretto and Aperol.
The steakhouse features a Chef’s Table and a private dining room for 50. Panels of the Great Lakes area and sculptures of urban scenes showcase the beauty of Detroit and the surrounding areas.
