Delray Beach: Small Town Luxury & Big Meeting Options

Delray Beach is an oceanfront beach town just north of Boca Raton in Palm Beach County, Florida. The downtown area, Pineapple Grove art district and popular Atlantic Avenue are rapidly attracting groups after the Travel Channel and USA Today named the city, “The Most Fun Small Town in America.”  The warm and sandy beach spreads for two miles along A1A, where the street is lined with popular beach bars and top-tier meeting hotels.

Atlantic Avenue, the longest main street in Florida, stretches over the inter-coastal waterway and is lined with boutique shopping, sophisticated restaurants, horse carriage rides and street vendors.  The city has a growing art scene with over 20 galleries in the downtown area. Artist Alley is a growing attraction where groups can tour around art studios and learn from local artists.

Hotel options for planners include the Delray Beach Marriott, the Seagate Hotel & Spa and the Hyatt Place Delray Beach in Pineapple Grove.

We spoke with Stephanie Immelman, executive director of Delray Marketing Cooperative to find out more.

PREVUE: Why should groups choose Delray Beach?

Stephanie Immelman: I think Delray Beach is perfect for groups for many reasons. The town is walkable, so the attendees can stay at the Marriott and get around on foot or by the free golf cart rides by the Delray Downtowner and get to Atlantic Avenue or Pineapple Grove.

Can you name some popular group activities?

There are many restaurants in the area, it’s very café society and very alfresco. It’s really hip and happening. There are many group activities that groups can do, for example, groups of 150 can board the Lady Atlantic and enjoy a ride down the intercostal or they can go to the Arts Garage downtown for a jazz concert for 150. There area always has free Friday night concerts from October thru January downtown. So there are many things groups can do.

What is a special event that it unique to the destination?

In the past we had a Florida special events group do a text message pub crawl. It was a large group, but they made their way around the avenue on their own and really got a chance to explore. The text message will provide times and locations for the group to meet and try a free appetizer or cocktail.

How has Delray grown over the past few years?

We’ve made a big effort to make Delray a beautiful town over the past 20 years. The reason that we are not starting to target groups is because the area is so focused on young professionals, sustainability and cosmopolitan culture.

Why should groups choose Delray over Miami, Fort Lauderdale or Palm beach?

It’s only 20 minutes from PBA and 40 minutes from FTL. We are a hidden gem between both destinations. For those who really want to let their hair down, but also shop and relax. We have it all. It’s fun for families, empty nesters and of course, large groups.
