The 375-room JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa and the 416-room CasaMagna Marriott Cancun Resort in Cancun are now a bit more meetings friendly with the introduction of the groups all-inclusive package that provides all-inclusive style booking at affordable rates. The sister properties are also offering meeting package add-on options that range from a welcome or farewell reception to A/V packages that can be used in the properties’ 31,300-sf of meeting space. Prevue spoke with Christopher Calabrese, the vice president and general manager at the sister properties, about the benefits of the package for meeting planners.
Prevue: Why did the Marriott properties decide to offer an all-inclusive meetings package?
Christopher Calabrese: As the all-inclusive market grows, our goal with the program was to accommodate meeting planners who tend to gravitate toward the convenience of booking an all-inclusive experience. With this option, we sought to raise the bar in our region with planners now being able to rely on the quality product and services guaranteed by the Marriott brand.
What are some examples of creative ways meeting planners have used the all-inclusive meetings package?
Because every group is different, we also launched meeting package add-on options to allow planners to tailor each experience to their clients. Some opt to throw in perks such as spa treatments at JW’s 35,000-sf Mayan-inspired spa while others enhance the experience with themed welcome receptions to bring groups together.
What makes these Marriott properties stand out in the meetings market compared to other all-inclusive properties in the area?
Combined, our 4- and 5-Diamond resorts offer a total of 900 guest rooms and more than 70,000-sf of function space, allowing us to host groups larger than most resorts in the region can accommodate. From our comfortable guest rooms to the amenities and food and beverage, our resorts offer a consistent product that’s backed by Marriott standards, so all groups, whether booking under the all-inclusive or European pricing model, can expect to receive the same high-quality product.
How do these Marriott properties provide a destination experience that encompasses the local culture?
Our event staff embraces the local culture and infuses many elements of it when planning events. All of our events are themed. In addition to what we have available on property, we can work with our vendor partners to make any theme possible. One of the most popular is the Mayan jungle party, during which our JW Marriott beachfront lawn is transformed into an ancient Mayan site with performers that demonstrate Mayan rituals and prehistoric dancing. Sometimes, there’s nothing more inspiring than the simplicity of white lounge furniture on the white sand beach with the blues of the roaring ocean as the backdrop.
