Connecting like-minded attendees is a cornerstone of meetings and incentives in Singapore that adds an aura of inclusivity from the get-go.

And if your group happens to have a giveback or green meeting in mind, Kershing Goh, regional director of Singapore Tourism Board for the Americas, says you’ll find that this “city in a garden” surpasses expectations. “Singapore is built on the notion of preservation and sustainability, with a focus on innovation that deems us both a city in a garden and a city of the future.” The morphing of Singapore’s MICE identity in recent years—from festivalization to transformational to just keeping it real in 2018—adds an experiential component to meetings and incentives in Singapore and sustainability therein that is easily integrated into programs.

Pop-Up Venues

One case in point is Gardenasia, whose eclectic pop-up venues, the largest holding room for 1,000, open out into voluminous natural landscapes. Here, groups of up to 200 learn to create art out of recycled materials, plant their own terrariums—desert to rainforest—or venture into the city for a day of planting gardens in underutilized urban spaces.

Conservation Workshops

Conservation workshops, nature tours and built-in stunning natural backdrops and nature-themed event spaces at Gardens By the Bay and the Singapore Botanic Gardens are sure to add a sense of well-being to jam-packed meetings and events; while groups of 20 to 50 can bring the uplifting feeling of the outdoors inside during a Social Creatives mural painting workshop that lines the walls of welfare organizations with colorful expressions of nature.

Green Innovators

Unifying the Singapore Tourism Board and Singapore Economic Development Board into one cohesive brand, Passion Made Possible, has also added new layers of cultural immersion to mindful meetings. Groups can chat with local visionaries like Veera Sekaran, a pioneer of vertical gardening in Singapore, or Subaraj Rajathurai, an eco-tour guide who has worked to preserve endangered ecosystems for the past 35 years. “Having people like Veera and Subaraj serve as leading voices in our new brand shows our commitment to sustainability through the genuine passions of locals,” Gershing says.
