Swire Hotels Unveils New High-Tech EAST Beijing


Swire Hotels‘ 369-room EAST Beijing opened in September last year in the popular Chaoyang District with a focus on the business traveler of the future. The tech savvy staff sports zip-up sweatshirts and Converse sneakers reminiscent of software professionals like Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerburg.

The Apple and Bose sound systems in the bars, guestrooms and public spaces provide groups with a totally digital check-in process and overall experience. One of the hoodie-clad staff members escorts each guest to their room for a quick tour of the many in-room gadgets. All guestrooms come with an iPod Touch with apps for hotel services and entertainment. All public areas feature sockets and converters for all attendees’ many portable devices.

EAST is designed for those who appreciate luxury, creativity and technology. The hotel is modern and edgy with a fusion of cool Scandinavian design with Asian accents. The public spaces have earthy green stones, wooden floors and subtle details hidden in warm lighting and modern furniture. The design palate radiates natural simplicity coupled with luxurious comfort and elegance.

Meeting/event venues within EAST include The Workshop, a standalone meeting venue holding up to 120. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and led by a dedicated events team, The Workshop has plenty of intriguing breakout spaces for scheduled meals or impromptu snacks. The venue includes an open kitchen area, noodle bar and a candy wall.

The Domain is a meeting venue that blends the boardroom with a trendy coffee shop. The creative juices get going while attendees dine with access to private Macbooks and endless coffee drinks. The

Upstairs Lounge is a social business center with daily happy hour from the cocktail bar and Enomatic wine dispenser. iPads are on hand for guests to borrow and there’s a private meeting space for small groups to gather.

The hotel has two restaurants, a live music lounge and a cafe. Executive Chef Robert Cunningham joins EAST from the award-winning Capital M restaurant in Beijing. Feast (Food by EAST) serves daytime meals, featuring international cuisine with fresh, sustainable ingredients. Chef Cunningham and his team create all dishes in a vibrant open kitchen. Groups meals are served on the scenic park view terrace. Hagaki is a Californian-inspired Japanese restaurant serving signature sushi rolls and classics like tonkatsu, tempura and udon, plus take-out bento box lunches for groups on the go.

Xian is EAST’s chic lobby bar, famous for its collection of premium whiskeys. The pub-style lounge is also a live music venue and game room with pool table, Foosball and arcade games. Xian is adjacent to the onsite art gallery and private gardens.

The hotel is located within 15 minutes from Wangjing Business Park, the central business district and the Beijing Capital International Airport. During off time, venture to the nearby INDIGO mall, home to 200 international retailers, boutiques, bars and restaurants. The area is the center of China’s contemporary art scene and the hotel is located next to the 789 Art Zone.
