Chaminade Resort & Spa in Santa Cruz has taken relaxation and meditation to the next level by adding tranquil meditation alcoves to select guest rooms as part of its recent renovation. The goal: to allow guests to maintain their daily rituals and practices while on the road.
The alcoves are situated by windows or sliding glass doors overlooking the property’s eucalyptus trees and mountaintop views. There is soft lighting above the headboards and flameless candles in the rooms to add to the relaxing ambience. In addition to meditation mats, each alcove has traditional Japanese Zabuton cushions, which are commonly used in Zen meditation. A smaller Zafu cushion is filled with buckwheat for support, while the Zabuton cushions the knees and ankles.
The 156-room Mission-style resort offers a Mindful Meetings Package as well, which includes a guided meditation at the beginning and end of each day’s meeting, yoga stretch breaks, guided hikes, mindful menu options and more.
