The 8th annual Global Wellness Day (GWD) on June 8th takes the notion of wellness down to the community level—in 150 countries across the globe.
What began as a celebration at a Turkish spa now spans 5,000 locations around the world, all pumped up for the idea of slowing down and finding work-life balance. This year’s global wellness theme focuses on creating “well” communities, and groups will find no shortage of complimentary classes, demonstrations and healthy living tools offered at hotels, spas and other locations across the country and abroad.
GWD’s Seven Step Manifesto can be easily implemented into meetings and events at standout GWD locations in the US, including Los Angeles & La Jolla, California; Cleveland, Ohio; NYC and South Florida. This year’s celebrations range from entire cities joining for wellness events to hotels and community centers offering complimentary activities ranging from hiking to ethno dance; tai chi to digital detox and workplace wellness seminars.
Additionally, companies Biologique Recherche, Cinques Mond and Kerstin Florian are contributing to events and more than 60 hotel companies such as Marriott, Accor, Four Seasons, Rosewood, Fairmont, Loews, Swissotel, Pendry, One & Only, Conrad, Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, Raffles, Six Senses, Waldorf Astoria and Westin are organizing events (complete list here). In its fifth year of international celebrations, GWD has welcomed China, Kenya, the Cayman Islands, Peru, Zimbabwe and Dominican Republic. Here are a few international highlights:
Forest therapy, yoga, breathing exercises, aromatherapy, walks along the beach, beach cleaning, planting trees and mindfulness will take place throughout the country.
Groups can get in on seven days of community events, visits to elder care facilities, “wellness for everyone” and workplace wellness seminars.
The South Africa GWD team will speak at schools about wellness, visit senior care centers and donate clothes, food and toys to needy. A Johannesburg tech exec will be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and taking the GWD flag to the summit.
Events across France will be held at Thalassa and Accor properties, and there will be public yoga classes at all locations of Le Tigre Yoga Club.
GWD is once again organizing a “Medical Mission” with Chiva-Som to the village between Thailand and Myanmar board to support the disadvantaged community with efforts to educate, develop and encourage local sustainability.
