Marina Bay SandsOne of the most recognizable buildings in the world is about to get bigger and bolder.

In a matter of a year, Marina Bay Sands has brought more than 700 new MICE events to Singapore and hosted 3,680 events at its Sands Expo and Convention Centre. A new partnership with the Singapore government will build on this momentum with a bold expansion adjacent to the existing integrated resort. The $3.3 billion development will include a 1,000-suite luxury hotel tower, new MICE space and a 15,000-seat arena that incorporates cutting edge technology and state-of-the-art production capability.

The hotel tower will feature a dramatic atrium, sky roof and terraces, along with myriad F&B options, including a signature restaurant, and a combination of meeting rooms, ballrooms and exhibition halls. Groups can also bask in the tower’s swimming pool set beneath a sky roof. Rob Goldstein, the company’s president and COO, says the mega development is really more of an economic catalyst.

“New luxury hotel accommodations and a world-class entertainment venue are exactly what we need to drive additional visitation to Singapore, and specifically to Marina Bay Sands. The expansion is a key component of our company’s strategic growth plan … additional hotel rooms are extremely important to us in addressing the demand created by our leisure and business tourists and our premium gaming customers.”

Singapore has long been known for its planner-business matchmaking skills, and this new project showcases yet another example of how governments and businesses can work together to maximize the economic and experiential benefits for all involved.

The enhanced Marina Bay Sands will still be operated by Las Vegas Sands, an originator of the integrated resort concept.
