new and renovatedThis week’s grand opening of the 360-room Conrad Washington, DC is one of many new developments in the historic but ever-evolving capital city.

The luxe and artsy Hilton property has plenty of selfie-worthy spots—a soaring atrium to lush outdoor terraces to a rooftop bar with views of the Capitol—and offers planners 32,000-sf of meeting space. But as exciting as this is, the property reflects a much larger hotel renaissance that’s happening in DC this year and the next. Here are 10 equally fabulous new and renovated properties.

Eaton Workshop, Moxy Washington, Hilton Washington DC National Mall, The Dupont Circle Hotel & W Washington, DC

A perk to the new 209-room Eaten Workshop lifestyle hotel in downtown DC is its bleisure vibe: co-working spaces for up to 370, a 50-person movie theatre, speakeasy, coffee bar, rooftop lounge and wellness center offering reiki and sound baths. The 200-room Moxy Washington, DC Downtown opened with a millennial-minded concept, rooftop lounge and economy pricing, while the 367-room Hilton Washington DC National Mall L’Enfant Plaza was renovated and rebranded to offer 23,000 sf of meeting space, including a grand ballroom for 800 attendees.

The Dupont Circle Hotel has also reopened following a multimillion-dollar transformation that includes the new Doyle Bar, a new restaurant called The Pembroke, a renovated lobby, a rooftop with 14 suites and one of the largest penthouses in DC with a fireplace and heated garden terrace and views of the Washington Monument. W Washington DC, meanwhile is reopening this summer following a $50 million renovation, including a redesign of its 12,000 sf of meeting and event space and two new signature F&B venues: a ground-floor restaurant and a renovated POV rooftop bar and lounge.

Opening Next Year:
Mob Hotel, Thompson Hotel, SLS, The James & citizenM

The Mob Hotel is the first of five planned North American hotels in DC in 2020. The stylish Paris-based chain embraces neighborhood culture through workshops, art talks and regular concerts in its lobbies. The 225-room Thompson Hotel near the Capitol Riverfront will be the first full-service property for the Southeast DC neighborhood and offer 4,000 sf of meeting space, while the design-focused SLS Hotel’s mezzanine and cellar will include amenities and a 5,500-sf ballroom. The James in DC’s NoMa neighborhood is a boutique gem with 204 rooms, 10,000 sf of meeting space and a rooftop bar and the “affordable luxury” concept of citizenM, formerly the Ibiza nightclub, will focus on art, design, hospitality and value.
