St. Louis’ Ballpark Village is about to get much bigger as it gears up for a $260 million second-phase project that will bring a combination of retail, restaurants, offices, residences and even a new hotel to the city’s downtown core—fittingly, near the St. Louis Cardinals’ Busch Stadium.

In this next phase, meeting planners will be able to take advantage of the $65 million Live! By Loews convention hotel, being built as part of the project. The 216-room, eight-story hotel will feature 17,000 sf of meeting space, highlighted by views of the city’s famous Gateway Arch and downtown in the backdrop. Its Great Room Lounge and Outdoor Terrace will be especially inviting on summer nights when the Cardinals are playing.

This Phase II project is about five times as large as the first phase of Ballpark Village, which opened in the spring of 2014 to the tune of $100 million as a new restaurant and entertainment district for the city. In addition to various restaurants and bars, the complex features five live performance stages, a retractable roof, a massive indoor TV screen and outdoor festival space that recreates the infield of the previous Busch Stadium in its historical location.

Located on 10 acres just north of the stadium, Ballpark Village is the first master-planned development in the country designed around a new Major League Ballpark. Being built through a partnership between the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and The Cordish Companies development company, Ballpark Village is the next step in the St. Louis Cardinals’ vision for downtown, which started with the debut of the $411 million, privately financed Busch Stadium in 2006.

Construction on Phase II is scheduled to start as early as next month, with some parts opening next year and full completion scheduled for 2019.
