COVID-19These are unprecedented times given the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. As most people are home as the crisis unfolds, they are trying to help in meaningful ways. “We have decided to share with this great city some of the beauty that would have been part of some magnificent special events in the upcoming week. We hope this brings a smile to your face as we get through this together,” was the message that accompanied two truckloads of flowers that decorated Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square last week after COVID-19 led to the cancellation of several events. DFW Event Design, an event company, wanted to share the blooms with the city when several of its events were canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

“We wanted to bring smiles to people’s faces,” explains Katie Robinson, the owner of DFW, who came up with the idea when she saw florists from Holland, where many of her flowers come from, throw many of their flowers away due to the crisis.

Not only did the 2,000 flowers decorate six vases around the park’s perimeter, Antoine-Louis Barye’s lion statue, and the park’s fountain, but some were offered to residents to bring home with them.
