There’s always something playing in Austin, the Texas capital and the Live Music Capital of the World®. And if you haven’t tuned in lately, you should. Austin is a city that is both laid-back and cosmopolitan, a mix of an educated flair and a touch of Texas bravado. In the last several years, Austin has gained prominence among meeting planners and leisure travelers. With new hotels breaking ground, the city has positioned itself to bring a whole new level of meeting possibilities to Austin.

Ranked as one of America’s safest cities, Austin offers 30,000 hotel rooms city-wide, including 6,000 rooms downtown. Located in the heart of the downtown, the Austin Convention Center is one of the nation’s most technologically advanced facilities. It is the first convention center in Texas and only the second in the country to achieve LEED® Gold Certification for Existing Buildings making it a prime destination in Green meetings. This certification demonstrates the facility’s commitment to investing in environmental stewardship. The Austin Convention Center stretches over six city blocks and is 881,400 gross square feet of space. It offers 370,957 square feet of meeting space including 246,097 square feet of column-free exhibit space divisible into five adjoining halls.

New and exciting hotel projects are planned in and around the city. The JW Marriott Austin,  breaks ground this year with plans for a 1,012-room convention style hotel featuring  115,000 square feet of   flexible meeting space.  Also in 2012, Manchester Texas Financial Group will break ground on a $350 million “uniquely Austin” hotel featuring 1,035 rooms, restaurants, retail, and 115,000 square feet of meeting space.  The addition of these hotels will bring the downtown room count to more than 7,000, allowing Austin to host new and larger domestic and international meeting groups while continuing to  promote annual marquee events such as SXSW Music, Film and Interactive Conferences and Festivals and the Austin City Limits Music Festival.

As the Live Music Capital of the World®, Austin echoes with the sounds of rock, blues, country, and Tejano.  Fans discover live music in nearly 200 venues throughout the city. But that’s not the only thing on the playlist. Visitors come to the city not only to see and hear live music, but to bike and hike, take a dip in Barton Springs, shop in local stores and eat great food. With so much going on, there is no reason why you shouldn’t tune in.
