“Meandering paths guide guests through the public spaces, expanding on the idea that straight lines do not exist in nature.”
Typical of the Westin brand, wellness is a major factor in the newly opened Westin Buffalo, connected to several offices and businesses in downtown Buffalo, N.Y. Workout programs, a local bike-sharing program and even wellness-inspired design elements at the hotel will attract attendees looking to continue their fitness routines on the road.
The 116-room hotel, owned and operated by Delaware North, features a biophilia-focused design that enhances the hotel guest’s connection to nature. The interiors feature a color palette of soft, earthy hues matched by artworks of nature scenes. Meandering paths also guide guests through the public spaces, expanding on the idea that straight lines do not exist in nature. The design even features an extension of the brand’s trademark vertical garden.
“This hotel is unlike any other in Buffalo,” says Thomas Long, the hotel’s general manager. “With the revitalization of downtown Buffalo over the past several years, there was a real demand for a high-caliber hotel experience that, Delaware North and the Westin brand, is poised to exceed for both guests and residents in the community.”
To inspire fitness, yes, the property offers typical Westin athletic programs. Its Gear Lending partnership with New Balance allows attendees to checkout athletic gear during their stay. The RunWESTIN program is also available for attendees who want a map of three- and five-mile jogging routes in the area. However, the fact that the hotel is a hub for Buffalo’s Reddy Bikeshare program is unique to this Westin hotel. Created by Independent Health, the program offers 200 red bikes throughout the city to help increase local health and well-being.
Groups looking for healthy dining options can find them on the wood-fire cooking menu at the hotel’s Patina 250 restaurant, or they can visit Jake’s Café, which offers a bistro-like atmosphere and more casual fare. The property also features 7,300 sf of meeting and event space as well as an outdoor courtyard for groups.
