Thirty senior meeting planners gathered at California’s Langham Huntington, Pasadena in early July for Prevue’s Global Meeting & Incentive Planning Summit.
While education and networking events were the name of the game during the two-day event, one of the major highlights was the opening reception’s introduction to New Zealand as a major meetings destination, thanks to sponsors Tourism New Zealand, Air New Zealand, HQNZ, Icebreaker, IDNZ Destination Management and Millennium Hotels & Resorts.
That first night gave planners a sense of New Zealand, especially its famous Hobbiton attraction where “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy was filmed. And flown in all the way from New Zealand, Air New Zealand’s Maori cultural performers shared the country’s stories, songs and customs to highlight its rich cultural aspects.
Over the course of the two days, meeting planners also met one-on-one with New Zealand representatives to learn more about the country’s business facilities, culture, entertainment and cuisine. The event’s education even prepped planners for international travel, with sessions covering the complexities planning international meetings in regard to site selection, global meeting security, strategic hotel contracting and negotiating, and long-haul travel.
“This is the second year that we have collaborated with Prevue to hold this bespoke summit, which is, in essence, a master class for meeting planners,” said Alexa Bennett, Tourism New Zealand’s Business Events Manager for North America, following the event. “It was a fantastic forum to showcase New Zealand’s new business event offerings and our unique approach to meeting planning.”
Bennett also explained that any concerns over long-haul travel to New Zealand are being addressed in the form of increased air connectivity and direct flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Honolulu, and starting in November, Chicago, making it easier than ever to visit.
