With more sports venues per person than any other place in Europe, Nottinghamshire (or the county of Nottingham) earned the title of England’s Home of Sport last year. Here are four sports-oriented options for groups:
David Ross Sports Village
The University of Nottingham is developing the new $58 million David Ross Sports Village, scheduled for completion later this summer. The complex’s sports hall will feature 20 badminton courts, four netball courts, four volleyball courts, four basketball courts and four indoor hockey pitches, among other facilities. A seminar room, sports science area and large catering facility will also help serve groups.
Belton Woods
Both an 18- and nine-hole golf course await attendees at Belton Woods who are looking to practice their golf game in between meeting in the 84-bed lodge’s 10 meeting rooms. Situated on 475 acres, Belton Woods also offers archery, ballooning, croquet and a driving range on site.
Off Limits
Off Limits, a multi-activity and event company, can organize an array of teambuilding options including a rendition of the original “It’s a Knockout” games, with costumes, games and props like those from the BBC TV series of the 1970s and 1980s. Attendees don giant suits and make their way across the obstacle course of inflatable hurdles, wet sponges and massive amounts of foam.
Southwell Racecourse
Meeting planners can combine business and play by planning a morning meeting with an afternoon horse race at the Southwell Racecourse. Up to 300 attendees can watch the races in the Minster Suite overlooking the track. The Grandstand concourse can also be used for conferences, with additional seminar and breakout rooms available.
