Think they’re having fun at the FICP Annual Conference?

From education to CSR to a fun-filled private evening at Universal, this week’s FICP Annual Conference was a huge success.

Here are 7 highlights from this year’s FICP Annual Conference, which drew 770 meeting professionals and hospitality partners to the JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes:

Attendees learned about keynoter Mel Robbins’ “5 Second Rule”: If you have an instinct to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill it. The moment you feel an instinct or a desire to act on a goal or a commitment, use the Rule.

Keynoter Derreck Kayongo, who founded the Global Soap Project, shared the story of his journey from Ugandan refugee who had never seen hotel soap to the formation of his multimillion dollar nonprofit, which recycles used soap bars and distributes them to disadvantaged people around the world.

A private evening at Universal Studios allowed attendees to meander through the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and even try out a few rides.

In a session on Practicing Mindfulness for Business by trainer and executive coach Holly Duckworth, attendees learned about everything from singing bowls to chakras to creating work-life “integration,” finishing off with a group meditation.

An ambitious afternoon of CSR had teams building Red Flier wagons, decorating them and competing in trivia contests to win toys to fill them with. The wagons will be donated to patients at the Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital. Shown here is Editor Barbara Scofidio with her team.

The 17th Annual Silent Auction raised $90,029 to support three Orland-based charities: Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida, Orlando Health and United Against Poverty.

In addition to delivering the topics at the front of planners’ minds, such as risk management and cost cutting, there were numerous sessions focused on professional development, from building your personal brand on social media to leading by empowerment.
