Montage Palmetto Bluff

The charm of Montage Palmetto Bluff in Palmetto Bluff, S.C., just became more accessible for larger groups with the debut of a $100 million expansion in late August.

The addition of a brand-new inn building created 74 more guest rooms for a total of 200 available at the property. With the inn came the new Jessamine steakhouse restaurant, 13,000-sf Spa Montage and the 6,696-sf Wilson Ballroom. While the new touches offer more space for groups, the 20,000-acre property still maintains its Lowcountry spirit.

The new inn stands along an expanded lagoon waterway and was designed to look like a Southern mansion built on the property in the early 1900s. Crossing a bridge, attendees will be able to access the original cottages and cottage suites. Ideal for top execs, the 1,140-sf cottages are complete with a private swing and porch as well as two complimentary bicycles to ride around the property.

The onsite equestrian center and tennis facility give groups plenty of team building options, including everything from horseback riding amid the 15 miles of Palmetto Bluff trails to yoga to water aerobics. Attendees can also tour the on-property conservancy to explore the 20,000 acres of wildlife. Fishing for largemouth bass, dolphin tours or canoeing throughout the scenic waterways are additional way for groups to bond on the water.

If nothing else, groups won’t want to miss out on the local seafood. A Lowcountry oyster roast or boil can be organized for groups. Oysters from the May River can be grilled on a giant skillet over a fire pit. Of course, a happy hour spent “porching” is another Southern tradition in which attendees can simply drink wine and socialize in rocking chairs on the property’s porch before dinner or well into the evening.
