Leave it to Miami Beach to offer money to event professionals who can enhance the city’s creative appeal and create new tourism experiences.
The Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority (MBVCA) announced four new grants as part of its new Tourism Advancement Program in an effort to enhance the city’s cultural tourism efforts. That means organizations, festivals, pop-ups and productions can apply for the funding opportunity that will go towards 25 percent of the event or project budget. The grants are available between Oct. 1, 2018 and Sept. 30, 2019, for events that relate to one of these four categories:
Cultural Tourism
This one-time grant is available for new events on Miami Beach. It requires a four-to-one funding ratio, with the maximum grant being $30,000.
Major One-Time Event
This grant applies to new or one-time events that could eventually become recurring as well as attract enough attendees to have a major impact on tourism. The maximum grant request can be up to $45,000.
Special Projects
This is another grant for organizations with an event or program that can guarantee a return in viewership or promotion, with a max of $90,000 available.
Development Opportunities
Another grant targeting organizations with new or one-time events that could eventually become recurring is available for a max of $30,000. This one, however, has to create national or international impact and create significant tourism return.
“As we continuously work to elevate Miami Beach, it is imperative to strategically recruit, develop, promote and financially support and partner with key events and activations that are representative of our city as a cultural hub and international destination,” says Steve Adkins, chairman of the MBVCA.
