JW Marriott Costa Elena Resort & Spa has opened on Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coast, introducing the JW Marriott brand’s first all-inclusive resort and a new option for planners organizing meetings, retreats, incentives and group celebrations.
Set above Playa de El Jobo in Guanacaste, the 415-room resort combines more than 9,000 sf of indoor and outdoor event space with an all-inclusive format that gives groups access to dining, activities, wellness and entertainment as part of the overall resort experience.
Meeting Space With a Costa Rican Setting
The resort’s meeting offerings include an oceanfront ballroom and open-air event venues, allowing planners to move programs beyond traditional indoor meeting rooms and take advantage of the resort’s coastal setting.
The spaces are designed for meetings, retreats, celebrations and special events, with the surrounding landscape providing a backdrop for receptions and other group functions.
For planners, the resort’s all-inclusive model adds another layer of flexibility. Rather than building a program around separate meals, activities and entertainment costs, groups can incorporate many of those elements into the resort experience.
Build a Program Beyond the Meeting Room
JW Marriott Costa Elena gives groups several ways to add activities and connection points to an agenda. Planners can incorporate guided wellness sessions, private chef-led dinners, cultural programming and artistic experiences into group programs.
The resort also offers experiences designed around Costa Rica’s natural environment, including guided kayaking, sunset hikes, nature treks, water sports and private yacht charters.
One signature group experience is the Sacred Fire Soiree, a sunset gathering centered on connection and renewal and inspired by Costa Rica’s natural elements.
A weekly night market can also bring groups into the local culture through artisan vendors, traditional food, live music, dance and storytelling.
All-Inclusive Dining Gives Groups More Choices
With 15 restaurants and bars, the resort gives planners plenty of options for group dining, from casual gatherings to more elevated culinary experiences.

Venues span Costa Rican, Italian, Mexican and Japanese-inspired cuisine, while several restaurants focus on local ingredients and regional traditions. Groups can also incorporate private dining and chef-led experiences into their programs.
The resort’s JW Garden grows herbs, edible flowers, fruits and vegetables used throughout the culinary program, including in chef table dinners, private dining and cocktails.
Wellness and Team-Building Options
Wellness is another major component of the resort’s group offering. The property features a 16,000-sf wellness destination with Spa by JW, a fitness center and the brand’s first Mindfulness House.
Planners can build wellness into a meeting itinerary through experiences such as sound healing, meditation, Reiki, cacao ceremonies and other restorative activities. JW Marriott Costa Elena has 415 rooms and suites, including accommodations with separate living areas and select ground-floor suites with swim-out access.
