A 3D map of New Orleans gives attendees staying at the 700-room Astor Crowne Plaza – New Orleans French Quarter an interactive way to navigate the city—one of several new elements that make up the hotel’s recently debuted $13 million makeover.

Built in 1852, the Astor is one of New Orleans’ oldest hotels, which is why it refreshed its guest rooms and interior spaces while still maintaining a historic French Quarter essence. The upgrade emphasizes a better use of natural light that helps highlight the creative New Orleans interior design, including carpeting designed with wrought-iron shapes and framed vintage skeleton keys.

“Graphic patterns, soothing shades of warm gray and pops of classic NOLA ‘purple’ modernize the interiors yet subtly remind guests of where they are,” says Andrew Done, the hotel’s director of sales and marketing. “Guests will love this transformation; it feels like a new hotel on the inside, yet we’ve preserved the history and traditions that are the heart and soul of the Astor.”

The six-story Alexa Tower, one of the two buildings comprising the hotel, still boasts brick from the original construction. The rest of the hotel is housed in a building that was once the old Woolworth store and now houses Dickie Brennan’s Bourbon House Restaurant and Seafood Bar. Meeting planners can host events here—where attendees can nosh on Creole specialties such as barbecue shrimp, redfish on the half shell and oysters—before or after meeting in the property’s 32,000 sf of meeting space.
