A multimillion-dollar renovation has been launched for the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Rainforest Beach & Golf Resort in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
The transformation of the 542,000-sf resort—taking place over the coming months—will encompass the full reconstruction of all 400 guestrooms, 10 distinct culinary outlets, a revamped lobby and porte cochere, new pool experiences, modern social and nightlife spaces, and innovative programming.
To ensure minimal disruption to guests, the unveiling will take place in three phases with the first set of new offerings rolling out before the holidays in December 2024, featuring two new pools, including a zero-entry pool and an adult pool, as well as new cabanas. Guests also will experience a newly reimagined porte cochere and lobby, enhancing the arrival experience with a new observation deck.
The second phase, in January 2025, will include newly designed guest rooms and suites and will introduce a new healthy, all-day cafe concept to elevate the resort’s culinary landscape. Finally, the third and final phase in fall 2025 will debut three new signature restaurants, the resort’s new Xplorers Club, the opening of a state-of-the-art racquet center and a variety of wellness offerings.
Nestled at the base of El Yunque—the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System—the award-winning Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Rainforest Beach & Golf Resort offers a unique Caribbean experience, combining the allure of a protected rainforest and pristine beachfront while being set just 30 minutes from San Juan.
The property boasts 400 guestrooms and suites, two PGA championship golf courses, a world-class racquet center and a sublime location on two miles of secluded golden-sand beach. With over 100,000 sf of versatile function space—including one of the Caribbean’s largest ballrooms—it’s an ideal destination for both meeting and incentive travelers.
“We are ushering in a new chapter for the resort. We’re not just surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the rainforest and ocean; we’re integrating it into every aspect of the guest experience,” said Amadeo Zarzosa, GM of Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Rainforest Beach & Golf Resort in a media announcement. “The transformation of the resort will reinforce to both visitors and locals that something truly special is in Rio Grande.”
