Wayfinder Waikiki in Honolulu is expanding its locally inspired programming with a new lineup of community-driven experiences designed to connect guests with the culture and traditions of Hawaii.
The programming has been developed in collaboration with local organizations and cultural practitioners on Oahu and goes beyond surface-level amenities or activities to offer guests a more genuine connection to the destination. The on-property experiences — which are complimentary for hotel guests — include activities such as lei-making and ukulele classes in partnership with nonprofit Hawaiian Council, as well as interactive hula sessions led by local instructor Bethia, where guests will learn foundational movements and take in a full traditional performance. The schedule for activities is as follows:
Ukulele Class Presented by the Hawaiian Council – Every Thursday from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Lei Making Class Presented by Hawaiian Council – Every Tuesday from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Hula Mo’olelo with Local Instructor, Bethia – Every Wednesday and Sunday from 3:00 PM – 3:45 PM
“For us, offering locally rooted experiences is critical to how we approach hospitality,” said Jim Weisiger, General Manager of Wayfinder Waikiki, in a press release statement. “It goes beyond simply providing activities. It’s about creating meaningful connections between our guests and the people, traditions and environment that shape Hawaii. We believe that when developed thoughtfully, these experiences can leave a lasting, meaningful impact on both our guests and our local community.”
Wayfinder Waikiki has also introduced a series of off-site experiences such as a Genki ball-making workshop, where guests create microbial-packed bundles that help purify local waterways and release them into the Ala Wai Canal as part of ongoing restoration efforts. In partnership with Friends of Hōkūleʻa & Hawaiʻiloa, the hotel also hosts monthly workshops focused on traditional Hawaiian canoe building, where a hands-on demonstration allows guests to contribute to local restoration work while learning about the cultural significance of the ships. The schedule for upcoming off-site events is as follows:
Wayfinder Waikiki x The Genki Ala Wai Project – May 9th + June 13th, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM ($28/person)
Wayfinder Waikiki x Friends of Hōkūleʻa & Hawai’iloa – May 16th + June 19th, 7:45 AM – 12:00 PM ($25/person)
Additionally, Wayfinder Waikiki also offers complimentary access for all hotel guests to Bishop Museum, Hawaii’s premier natural and cultural history institution, to explore the history, environment and heritage of the Pacific.
