National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions will expand its Alaska expedition program beginning in 2027, responding to continued growth in demand for small-ship exploration in the region.

As part of the expansion, Lindblad will charter the Greg Mortimer for three years, increasing capacity and enabling the development of additional itineraries in Alaska’s more remote areas. The addition also will enhance offerings for incentive trips.

Adventurous Expeditions in Alaska

Zodiacs get up close and personal.

Purpose-built for expedition cruising, the Greg Mortimer is designed to operate in challenging and environmentally sensitive environments. The vessel features the Ulstein X-BOW, which enhances stability and fuel efficiency, as well as dynamic positioning technology to minimize impact on fragile seafloors.

Multiple Zodiac loading platforms support frequent off-ship exploration, while expansive observation decks and public spaces are designed for wildlife viewing and scenic cruising.

The ship accommodates 154 guests in cabins designed for expedition travel, many with private balconies. Onboard amenities include learning spaces and wellness facilities. The charter is expected to strengthen the company’s ability to expand its Alaska itinerary portfolio and operate additional sailings during peak seasons.

Beginning in 2027, voyages aboard the Greg Mortimer will feature a mix of iconic Alaska destinations and small-ship-only waterways. Itineraries are expected to include visits to Hubbard Glacier, the largest tidewater glacier in North America, with opportunities for Zodiac cruising and kayaking. Routes will also navigate portions of the Inside Passage, including Grenville Channel and Princess Royal Channel.

These itineraries will complement National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions’ Alaska programs, which traditionally feature the Inian Islands, Misty Fjords, Endicott Arm and Tracy Arm, and dedicated Southeast Alaska exploration days.
