In recognition of the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Visit Milwaukee has announced two major enhancements to its website that underscore the destination’s commitment to inclusive tourism: a dedicated accessibility hub and adaptive events calendar.

These new tools are designed to help travelers of all abilities, and those planning on their behalf, navigate Milwaukee with confidence. Developed in collaboration with more than 100 local businesses, attractions, and venues, the platform provides easily searchable, transparent information about accessible amenities and inclusive experiences across the city.

“We believe every traveler deserves to experience the energy, culture, and hospitality that make Milwaukee special,” said Peggy Williams-Smith, president and CEO of Visit Milwaukee. “The accessibility hub and adaptive events calendar are not only about better digital tools, they reflect our deeper promise to welcome everyone to our city.”

The accessibility hub features curated itineraries, sensory-friendly attractions, partner-submitted information, and educational blog content that highlights inclusive travel experiences in Milwaukee. The accompanying adaptive events calendar showcases events with features such as ASL interpretation, sensory accommodations, tactile experiences, and more. Visitors to the site can also filter listings across the platform by accessibility criteria including wheelchair access and sensory-friendly environments.

These tools also complement Visit Milwaukee’s recent participation in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, a global initiative that helps individuals with non-visible disabilities signal their need for additional support, understanding, or time while exploring Milwaukee. Visitors can now pick up complimentary sunflower lanyards at Visit Milwaukee’s downtown office, its visitor center locations within Baird Center, and at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by Visit Milwaukee to position the city as a leading inclusive destination in the Midwest. Additional components include a sponsorship of ADA Day at Independence First on July 31, social influencer campaigns, and a fall partner toolkit to support businesses in sharing their accessibility offerings. The campaign will be amplified through blogs, social media, email outreach, and continued collaboration with accessibility advocates across the region.
