After considering more than 100 executives from Puerto Rico and abroad, Jorge L. Perez, CVE, MBA, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Discover Puerto Rico.
Offering more than 20 years of experience in economic development and management, as well as in the destination marketing, events, and entertainment industries, Perez has been a key figure in the evolution of Puerto Rico’s tourism and economic ecosystem, positioning the island as a world-class destination for conventions, entertainment and high-impact events.
Perez, a 15-year veteran at Legends/ASM Global, serves as Regional General Manager overseeing Puerto Rico’s Convention Center, Coliseo, Coca-Cola Music Hall, and Antiguo Casino. The IAVM-certified Venue Executive was named a VenuesNow “All Star” in 2022 for driving unprecedented growth in the Convention District. His leadership has propelled these venues to multiple excellence awards and top global rankings in Billboard and Pollstar for ticket sales and event quality.
“Jorge’s professional experience is comprehensive and impeccable. I am confident that, as the leader of the organization, he will stimulate travel demand to our destination and continue the tourism boom we’ve seen this decade”, said Raul Bustamante, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Discover Puerto Rico, the island’s destination marketing organization (DMO), in a media announcement.
Discover Puerto Rico will oversee a three-month transition, with Perez handling external strategic oversight alongside his current duties. This involves coordinating between the DMO and properties for groups and conventions to align with promotional strategies. Such coordination ensures facilities marketed by Discover Puerto Rico maximize economic impact.
Bustamante noted that the new CEO embodies all the qualities the board was seeking for the position, including extensive experience in the tourism industry, a deep knowledge of Puerto Rico, and the leadership skills needed to align public and private sector objectives.
Perez will begin his role leading the marketing of Puerto Rico as a destination for leisure, business, and conventions on Sept. 15.
