A pilot program at Toronto Pearson International Airport is making pre-departure dining as easy as hailing a rideshare for attendees.
As part the program—the first of its kind in the world—Toronto Pearson, Uber Eats and HMSHost, which creates dining for travel venues, recently partnered to bring Uber Eats to Toronto Pearson’s Terminal 3 international and domestic departures area, offering more options to attendees who are seeking to eat healthy while on the road.
“We are focused on expanding choice and convenience for our passengers and this pilot program is exploring another avenue to do so,” said Robin Smith, senior advisor of communications for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, the operator of Toronto Pearson International Airport.
Using the Uber Eats iOS iPhone or Android app, passengers can choose to have food from one of a handful of HMSHost restaurants delivered to their gate. Participating eateries include Caplansky’s Deli, Paramount Fine Foods, Smoke’s Burritorie, Smashburger and Fionn MacCools, giving travelers options for anything from burritos to fish and chips.
“This new pilot project gives passengers the opportunity to enjoy the best food options that Terminal 3 has to offer, even if they’re on a time limit,” Smith said. “Once you place your order on the Uber Eats app, you will be in direct contact with the restaurant via text message and will be provided with an estimated time of arrival for your order. You can contact the restaurant directly through text if you have any issues with the delivery time.”

The Toronto Pearson and Uber Eats pilot is scheduled to run to the third quarter of 2019, and is available at gates B22–B41 and C30–C36 in Terminal 3.
“Based on the success of the pilot, we will then explore options for a wider rollout which may include more food options,” Smith said.
According to a representative for Uber Eats, Toronto Pearson is currently the only airport participating in this pilot.
“Uber Eats’ partnership with Toronto Pearson is a perfect example of how our platform is creating unique experiences in unexpected places, beyond rides,” Marcus Womack, head of Global Airport Products at Uber, said in a statement.
Toronto Pearson served 49.5 million passengers in 2018, making it Canada’s largest airport and the second-busiest North American international airport. Meanwhile, HMSHost operates in more than 120 airports around the globe and at more than 100 travel plazas in North America.
