JetBlue is pulling the plug on its operations at Miami International Airport starting Sept. 3, as part of its strategy to eliminate less profitable routes. This decision marks the end of the carrier’s presence at MIA, just four years after it added the airport to its network.
JetBlue currently operates only one to two daily flights between Boston Logan International Airport and Miami. While this is a limited schedule, the complete withdrawal from MIA is still a significant change for the airline’s Florida operations.
JetBlue spokesperson Derek Dombrowski confirmed in a statement to The Miami Herald that passengers with flights booked to or from Miami after Sept. 3 will receive direct communication from the airline offering alternative travel options via Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) or a full refund. FLL is located approximately 25 miles north of Miami and is a much more substantial base for JetBlue operations.
JetBlue will maintain service at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, which currently offers approximately 70 daily flights to more than 30 destinations. The airline serves approximately 6.8 million passengers annually through FLL, making it a significant presence in the region despite the Miami withdrawal.
JetBlue will also continue to operate out of Palm Beach International Airport for travelers who prefer that location.
The airline’s Miami service reached its peak with 14 daily flights before the recent scale-back to the current Boston-only service. This withdrawal is part of JetBlue’s broader network adjustments, which also include suspending year-round service between Boston and Seattle, effective Oct. 25, and limiting that route to summer season operations only.
