MGM Resorts International will soon add another massive meetings property to its resort mix—this time, in a location about 80 miles west of Boston.

The $960 million MGM Springfield will officially make its debut on Aug. 24, attracting groups interested in combining meetings, gaming and a bit of history about the New England area. Take the property’s six-story hotel, for instance, which incorporates a design that pays homage to the area’s industrial roots with factory-style paned glass and Edison bulb fixtures. Even its open-air plaza is designed to mimic that of a traditional New England town commons, highlighted by the former State Armory building that will set the stage for live events, local artisan vendors and farmers markets.

Like most MGM properties, meetings is certainly top of mind, with 34,000 sf of versatile space in the form of ballrooms, meeting rooms, pre-function spaces and an outdoor terrace overlooking Armory Square. Highlighting the resort’s connection to other popular MGM properties, its meeting spaces will incorporate sister property names such as the 10,600-sf ARIA Ballroom or 5,600-sf Bellagio Ballroom. For larger groups, the nearby MassMutual Center, also operated by MGM Springfield, provides another 100,000 sf of space for major conferences. Plus, it brings in top-name musical acts such as Stevie Wonder on Sept. 1.

“Our meeting spaces at MGM Springfield were created not only with the latest technology, but with carefully designed elements that will complement multiple configurations for a variety of group sizes,” says Monique Messier, executive director of dales for MGM Springfield. “Guests will be wowed by the abundance of natural light that spills into the pre-function areas from the floor-to-ceiling windows.”

In true MGM style, there will be plenty of food and beverage experiences, including Cal Mare by Chef Michael Mina and Chef Adam Sobel as well as The Chandler Steakhouse, with Meghan Gill (season 14 winner of “Hell’s Kitchen) as executive chef. MGM’s TAP Sports Bar and the South End Market will round out the experience. Lastly, the resort will have no lack of entertainment for groups. A 125,00-sf casino, Topgolf Swing Suite, eight-screen movie theater complex, 10-lane bowling center, pool and spa are just the beginning.
