UT Austin’s Hotel Conference Center Enhances Guest-Room Technology

Groups meeting at the University of Texas at Austin will be happy to know that the on-campus AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center (ATTEECC) recently completed a $6.5 million renovation to its 297 guest rooms and suites. The refreshed rooms cater to business travelers with new technology.

After the four-month renovation, guest rooms now feature a 48-inch, flatscreen television with U-verse and DVR, more electrical outlets and USB at the bedside and desk, and LED lighting fixtures. In-room iPads feature newspaper, alarm clock and weather app functions as well as details about the hotel and surrounding area. For attendees looking to plan a last-minute outing when a meeting gets let out early, they can use the iPad search tool that curates Austin attractions and activities in real-time. The rooms also continue to feature smart guest-detecting thermostats that keep the room at a comfortable temperature when the guest is using the space, while saving on energy when the guest leaves.

The guest-room renovation follows a project that replaced the carpet in the ATTEECC’s 40,000-sf conference center in 2015. In July 2017, the adjacent Robert B. Rowling will open, featuring a 15,000-sf ballroom with 5,000 sf of pre-function space and a 5,500-sf banquet kitchen owned by the ATTEECC. Meeting planners looking for more innovative event space within the ATTEECC can plan in one of the center’s four dining spaces. The noteworthy Carillon Restaurant features a rotating menu based on local, seasonal ingredients.
