New York and Las Vegas are leading the country in their creation of a digital vaccine passport.

One version, New York’s Excelsior Pass, lets you store a digital vaccine passport on your smartphone with the Excelsior Pass Wallet app, available for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Businesses and venues then scan and validate your pass, along with a photo ID. Or you can also print your pass from the web site and bring it with you.

Participation in Excelsior Pass is voluntary and businesses are gearing up to accept alternate proofs of vaccination or testing, including paper.

A different type of passport focused on test results rolled out this week in Las Vegas, the digital Heliix Health Passport from Reviv Global. The mobile app, downloadable from the App Store or Google Play, uses an encrypted code to show the results of a recent COVID-19 test. This solution is directly targeted at convention-goers, and works in conjunction with Reviv’s three Las Vegas COVID-19 testing clinics, located at the MGM Grand, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and The Venetian.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. has also announced the implementation of a similar passport at The Venetian, Health Pass from Clear, which can show information such as COVID-19 lab results and will soon add vaccination results. A number of companies are working on similar solutions, including IBM.

Meanwhile, in Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis issued an executive order banning vaccine passports altogether, stating that they impede individual freedom and can harm patient privacy.
