Jason Neary, director of Sales for the North Lake Tahoe CVB, gives his top picks to groups and individuals with a couple of hour’s downtime in between meetings and events.
If a group or individual had only a couple of hour’s downtime in between meetings what “must do” experiences would you personally recommend?
Neary: One of the great things about Tahoe is that you’re never far away from recreation. Even with just a couple of hours of down time you can have a great adventure. Nearly every hotel has spectacular outdoor activities just outside their front doors. Just walk out of the Resort at Squaw Creek and you will find fly-fishing, hiking trails, golf and tennis in the summer and snowshoeing, dogsledding, cross country and downhill skiing in the winter. The Hyatt Regency lakefront meeting room opens right on the spectacular beaches of lake Tahoe where groups can spend down basking in the sun, paddleboarding, jet skiing or taking a cruise on their private catamaran in the summer, snowshoeing on the beach in the winter or take the 5 minute shuttle to Diamond Peak ski area. From the Ritz-Carlton, you have direct access to one of the top mountain bike parks in the country, scenic hiking trails at Northstar, a world-class spa and fabulous cabana’s by the pool.
For those interested in an exclusive luxury experience I would suggest an aerial tour of Lake Tahoe with Reno Tahoe Helicopters. The tours leave from the nearby Truckee airport and provide an undistrupted view of the destination. For those who would rather get on the lake then fly above it, I would recommend a private cruise on the Safari Rose. For the less adventurous, walking tours of historic Truckee or Tahoe City are always popular.
