Meeting planners looking for a venue that delivers more than traditional ballroom space will soon have a new option in downtown Pittsburgh.
Opening this summer, The Atterbury will join Marriott Bonvoy’s Autograph Collection following the transformation of the historic Fulton Building, a Pittsburgh landmark dating back to 1906.
Located near the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, the 300-room hotel aims to blend sophisticated design, local culture and flexible event space in a setting that feels distinctly connected to the city.
For planners, that means access to modern meeting facilities paired with an experience-driven environment that appeals to today’s attendees, whether they’re traveling for a conference, an incentive program or an executive retreat.
Originally designed by architect Grosvenor Atterbury for industrialist Henry Phipps, the building has long served as a place where people and ideas converge.
“For more than a century, this building has reflected Grosvenor Atterbury’s belief that architecture should bring people, ideas and experiences together,” says Chris Johnson, General Manager of The Atterbury, in a press statement. “That original intent still guides us today. With The Atterbury, we are building on that foundation, creating a space that will feel distinctly Pittsburgh while giving each guest the freedom and inspiration to experience the city in a way that is entirely their own.”

A New Option for Meetings and Events
According to the hotel’s meetings website, planners will have access to ballrooms, breakout rooms, and boardrooms, all equipped with modern technology and event services.
Meeting spaces include the 2,130-sf Jimmy Stewart Room, the 600-sf August Wilson Room, the 500-sf Henry Mancini Room and the 300-sf Mary Cassatt Room, alongside additional flexible gathering venues.
The Fulton Room, located on the ground floor, will function as both a social hub and event venue, offering opportunities for networking receptions, private dining experiences and informal gatherings outside the meeting room environment.
The hotel also plans to provide support services, including AV capabilities, video conferencing, event lighting and dedicated planning assistance, helping organizers execute programs of varying sizes.
Historic Design Meets Modern Hospitality
What may set The Atterbury apart, however, is its approach to design.
Led by Christine Shanahan of HVS Design, the property’s interiors balance historic preservation with contemporary style. Original architectural elements are paired with layered textures, rich colors and residential-inspired touches that create a setting designed to feel both timeless and welcoming.

Guest rooms and suites will reflect the building’s original architecture through a variety of layouts shaped by the historic structure itself, giving visitors a more individualized experience than what is typically found in newly built convention hotels.
An extensive art program will further immerse guests in Pittsburgh’s story. Inspired by Grosvenor Atterbury and his wife Astelle’s passion for the arts, the collection will feature portraits, historical collages and works by local artists celebrating the city’s evolution from steel powerhouse to modern cultural destination.
Beyond the Meeting Room
The property’s appeal extends beyond its event space.
Situated on 6th Street, The Atterbury places attendees within walking distance of Market Square, the Allegheny Riverfront, restaurants, nightlife and cultural attractions, making it easy for groups to incorporate off-site experiences into their programs.
The hotel’s signature dining venue, The Drafting Room, is expected to become a gathering place for both visitors and locals. Inspired by the creativity of an architect’s studio, the contemporary American restaurant and bar will serve seasonal cuisine alongside Pennsylvania craft beers, classic cocktails and approachable wines.
The Atterbury is now accepting reservations.
