Construction for the Grand Concourse Expansion at the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) will begin in 2026, with completion expected in 2029.
The $560M expansion project will bring an additional 44,000-sf of meeting space and a 100,000-sf ballroom to the OCCC’s North-South Building, as well as a new entry to the building along Convention Way.
“We are excited to begin work on our Grand Concourse Expansion,” said OCCC Executive Director Mark Tester in a media announcement. “This project will significantly improve the convention center as we continue to meet the growing needs of our clients, and the meetings and events industry.”
The Grand Concourse Expansion will provide the North-South Building with enhanced connectivity, a flexible grand ballroom, versatile meeting room space and multipurpose areas for additional capacity.
In addition, the OCCC’s North Concourse is just across the street from the coming Universal Epic Universe—Universal Orlando Resort’s fourth theme park—set to open on May 22nd.
But OCCC development continues, as the facility also received approval to design the second phase of the expansion project—Phase 5B, which would bring an additional 200,000 sf of contiguous multipurpose/exhibit space to the building while adding connectivity between the North and South Concourses. When completed, both phases will provide a grand total of 1.15 million sf of exhibit space in the North-South Building.
The OCCC provides approximately $3.9 billion in economic impact to Central Florida annually. In recent years, the Convention Center has averaged nearly 200 events, including 115 conventions and tradeshows that attract more than 1.5 million attendees to the region each year.
Recent events included the 72nd PGA Show—largest PGA Show in 15 years—when more than 33,000 golf industry professionals from 94 countries and 50 U.S. states came together to meet with more than 1,100 participating brands. Meanwhile, upcoming events include the Orlando Boat Show, a 3-day event to be held April 4-6.
