The Gunter Hotel
San Antonio’s historic Gunter Hotel has officially reopened its doors following a $57 million renovation, unveiling the first phase of its redesign. Part of Marriott Bonvoy’s Tribute Portfolio, the 116-year-old landmark is welcoming guests and groups into a new era of design, culinary offerings and meeting spaces.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome guests to the newly transformed Gunter Hotel and to share the next chapter of this historic icon,” said Owner and Managing Director at Axle Capital Jiwon Choi, in a media statement.
The revitalized property features 311 guestrooms, including 30 suites and 14 ADA-accessible accommodations, along with a rooftop pool, 24-hour fitness center and 20,000 sf of flexible meeting and event space.

The Gunter’s restored meeting venue combines historic architecture and cutting-edge technology, creating an inspiring setting for corporate groups, executive retreats and incentive programs. The events space can accommodate both intimate gatherings and mid-size conferences.
The Gunter now showcases four new dining and bar concepts, while guestrooms feature a record player for guests to play records from any of the hotel’s 900 albums, which are kept in the vinyl library. The hotel’s new recording studio, located above Bar 414, will open later this year, inviting groups to create and collaborate within this creatively charged space.
Centrally located in downtown San Antonio, The Gunter Hotel is steps from the River Walk and the city’s premier attractions. The hotel will continue its phased opening through 2025, with additional venues and experiences debuting in the coming months
Mokara Hotel & Spa
The Mokara Hotel & Spa is undergoing a top-to-bottom transformation, which began in August and is set for completion in October.
“This Fall, we look forward to welcoming new and returning guests as we unveil the next chapter at Mokara and the revitalizing escape that awaits here in San Antonio,” said Rusty Wallace, General Manager, Mokara Hotel & Spa, in a media statement.

With six meeting rooms totaling 4,500 sf, Mokara Hotel & Spa offers intimate, highly customizable venues ideal for executive gatherings, wellness retreats or incentive programs. Each space features state-of-the-art audiovisual technology and high-speed Wi-Fi. The property’s Rooftop Terrace, overlooking downtown San Antonio and the River Walk, provides a scenic backdrop for receptions, after-parties or open-air breakout sessions.
The refreshed guestrooms and suites will draw from the building’s early 20th-century heritage as a saddle factory, incorporating hand-stitched leather decor, handcrafted woods and neutral tones accented with alabaster and herringbone textures. Each room will also feature artwork by Dallas-based artist Lindsey Myers, whose abstract and impressionistic works bring a modern charm to the redesigned interiors.
Mokara places attendees within walking distance of San Antonio’s dining spots and cultural and entertainment scene. The hotel’s refurbishments position it as an appealing choice for small corporate groups, board retreats and wellness-focused incentive programs seeking an elevated Texas setting.
