Groups that enjoy staying at independent and lifestyle hotels will soon see enhanced benefits now that Commune Hotels & Resorts—comprising Joie de Vivre Hotels, Thompson Hotels, tommie and Alila Hotels & Resorts—and Destination Hotels, a leading operator of independent hotels, resorts and residences in the U.S., are combining forces. Through the merger, the two companies will create a single platform to offer more localized experiences and enhanced customer service for groups.

The combined company will be committed to creating personalized attendee experiences as well as introducing bold, nationally recognized restaurants, bars and nightlife options at its properties. For groups, that means there will be a greater selection of options at both urban and resort properties to have distinctly local and service-oriented experiences across a broader range of geographies and price points.

Through the merger, the Commune and Destination portfolios will complement each other.  Commune has a wider range of urban properties throughout North America, Asia and Europe, while Destination has a variety of resort properties across the U.S. The two companies have similar customer bases as well, with individual travelers and groups focused on the independent and lifestyle market.

Commune and Destination plan to maintain the individuality of each property and brand within the companies’ combined portfolios. The combined company will manage more than 90 hotels and resorts in seven countries with approximately $2 billion of total property revenues under management. Moving forward, it plans to expand the geographic reach of its brands both domestically and internationally in both urban and resort markets.
