Hall of Leaders
The Events Industry Council will recognize this year’s inductees to the EIC Hall of Leaders on Oct. 16 with a gala celebration. Check out this year’s crop of inductees!

Every year the Events Industry Council (EIC) inducts industry all-stars into its Hall of Leaders (HOL) at a Gala Awards Celebration held in conjunction with IMEX America in Las Vegas. This year the gala, which will be held on the evening of Oct. 15 at the Bellagio Resort & Casino, will celebrate seven individuals who will join the 150 extraordinary individuals who have already been inducted onto the HOL.

The inductees are chosen each year based on their being influential pioneers whose contributions shape the industry, whose achievements have proven to have lasting value to the meetings and events industry, and who have contributed to their communities and their industry through altruistic and charitable efforts.

This year, EIC is celebrating a truly illustrious group of people without whose contributions the industry would not be where it is today:

  • Carina Bauer, CEO, Regent Exhibitions Ltd./IMEX Group
  • Barbara Connell, CMP Fellow, CAE, President and CEO, Solutions by Connell, LLC
  • Wanda Johnson, CAE, CEO, American Society for Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition
  • Steve O’Malley, Enterprise Vice President, Maritz Global Events
  • Amelia binti Roziman, CIS, CEO, Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak)
  • Christine “Shimo” Shimasaki, CDME, CMP, Managing Director, 2Synergize, LLC
  • Dr. Deborah Breiter-Terry, CEM, Retired, University of Central Florida, Rosen College of Hospitality Management

“Each year I am inspired by the applications, stories and people who make the Global Awards possible, and this year is no exception,” said Amy Calvert, EIC CEO. “By honoring and celebrating our industry’s contributions to adaptation, innovation, sustainability and equity, and those who are leading the way, we bring together professionals with diverse experience and backgrounds who are united by key global regions and industry sectors. I look forward to celebrating the lifelong leadership, achievements and vision of this year’s Hall of Leaders inductees and award recipients.”

The gala also celebrates industry leaders who have made significant progress in the areas of social impact and innovation with the EIC Social Impact Award and the EIC Adaptation and Innovation Award.

The Social Impact Award focuses on those who have moved the needle regarding people, planet and prosperity. Their work, including fostering diversity, equity and inclusion in the global events industry, aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the EIC Principles for Sustainable Events. This year’s recipients are Geneviève Leclerc, Co-Founder and CEO, #Meet4Impact; and Zoe Moore, CDP, CEO, Grow with Zomo.

This year’s EIC Adaptation and Innovation Award goes to Megan Henshall, CMP, DES, Global Events Solutions, Strategic Lead, Google for her work on finding ways to innovate in ways that help to ensure the industry’s relevance today and into the future.

“The strength of the business events industry is built upon the passion, ideas, dedication and innovation of so many professionals,” said Sherrif Karamat, CAE, EIC Board of Directors Chair and PCMA and CEMA President and CEO. “This year we celebrate the people and organizations that are making a lasting impact through their leadership while inspiring us as we look toward the future.”
