The best spots on the web for job-hunting planners

Look beyond the general job-search portals to specialized industry web sites for the best selection of meeting planner jobs.

meetingjobs.com

The industry’s best-known job site, created by veteran Dawn Penfold, meetingjobs lists both temporary and permanent meeting professional positions. It also sponsors webinars where planners can hone their skills and receive CEUs. A quick search of its scrolling job board revealed a number of confidential meeting manager jobs; a staff meeting planning position with Prudential; a temporary events coordinator at Pershing, a BNY Mellon company; and event coordinator at the Minneapolis Convention Center, as well as some related positions, such as a sponsorship sales position and an account executive for CORT party rental.

LinkedIn

On the day we looked, LinkedIn was displaying 508 meeting planning jobs, from corporate meeting planner to senior meeting planner to event planner. The further into the list you got, the more unrelated some of the listed positions were, which is common with this platform. Developing a rich LinkedIn profile, posting thoughtfully and staying in touch with your followers frequently (not just when you need something) is the most valuable way to learn about new positions.

PCMA

The Professional Convention Management Association job board listed 164 positions and is open to the public. It’s searchable by salary, title and location, and includes a spot for members to post resumes.

MPI

Meeting Professionals International lists new jobs fewer than 15 days old only to members. After that period, these jobs become available to everyone. They are searchable in multiple ways and of course, being a member gives planners access to others in the organization through the community directory.
